As quoted in a famous TV series – Winter is Coming!

Although this year’s winter season is set to look very different to previous years, it is even more essential than ever to look after our health and wellbeing over these frosty months! Here are 3 winter wellness tips to help keep your physical and mental health tip top.

1. Get Outside

Sometimes the cold air and grey skies can be a little daunting and it may seem far more appealing to curl up on the sofa in a room filled with artificial heat. However, it is important to get outside and breathe the fresh air that winter brings! Remember, although it may not seem as appealing to step out of the front door in sub-zero temperatures, getting time outdoors helps to improve our moods and physical wellbeing, along with increasing our Vitamin D intake which our immune system relies on to keep away illnesses such as the flu!… Wrap up warm and see how good that crisp, fresh air makes you feel!

2. Eat for the Season

Comfort food binging is very tempting during cold dark evenings, but this can sometimes lead to poor nutritional choices that can make us feel sluggish and lethargic. Winter eating doesn’t have to be unhealthy and lacking in nutritional content. There are many seasonal vegetables that are perfect for winter meals such as Kale, Cabbage, Turnips and Broccoli. Eating well will not only keep that winter weight at bay but also give you increased energy and decrease your risk of illness… Make the most of all the great fruit and vegetables that thrive during the winter months!

3. Keep Exercising

It can be an easy decision to put exercise on the back-burner during the winter months for a number of reasons. Some of the excuses you will have heard or even used yourself could be “No need for that ‘Summer Bod’ for a few more months”, “Far too cold to go for a run” or “May as well just wait until January”. It is essential to remain active through the winter months in order to keep both physically and mentally well. Due to the global pandemic that the world has been battling throughout 2020, there has been a huge increase in both quantity and quality of free online home workouts that you can get for free and do in the warm comfort of your living room… No more excuses!
